Health in Mind (Mid Essex IAPT): adapting and responding Posted or Updated on 25 Jul 2022

Help campaign

'Help' is a new mental health campaign launched by NHS England and NHS Improvement to highlight that anxiety and depression can affect us all. The NHS provides a range of talking therapies for these common mental health issues which are free, effective and confidential, and the 'Help' campaign encourages anyone experiencing such issues to seek help from these NHS services - either by referring themselves, or by contacting their GP. The lyrics from the Beatles' song 'Help' bring to life the message that anyone can experience feelings of anxiety and depression, and that it's totally normal to ask for help. You can visit www.nhs.uk/help for more information about referring to one of our IAPT services.

Time to Talk day 2022

This year Time to Talk day took place on Thursday 3 February and it brought the nation together to have important conversations and break the silence around mental health problems. The day was about creating supportive communities amongst friends, families and colleagues to talk, listen and changes lives. Talking about mental health is not always easy, but a small conversation has the power to make a big difference. Our services want to carry on these conversations throughout the whole year. We can offer access to talking therapy to support people to improve their wellbeing. It could make a big difference to someone to get the support they need.

Diabetes Webinar

Following the successful launch of our 'Living well with Diabetes' webinar as part of World Diabetes Day last year, we are delighted to confirm that this free NHS expert-led live and interactive webinar will continue to be offered for those living with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes. Delivered in partnership with Diabetes UK, 'Living well with Diabetes' is a free 1-hour webinar that will explore the difficulties associated with living with diabetes, a holistic approach to treating diabetes and teaches techniques to improve emotional wellbeing. The webinar is facilitated by a trained and experienced CBT therapist and a Diabetes UK representative.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) course

A free Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) course is starting in February for patients registered with a Mid Essex GP surgery and who experience recurrent depression. Becoming more aware of our present-moment experience can often reveal richness and pleasure in our lives that we may have been missing, through being caught up in worries and over-thinking. Following an initial telephone appointment, the course will be covered in 8 sessions and each one will last for 2 hours. These group sessions will provide the opportunity for attendees to gain a shared understating of their problems, and shared learning on how to manage and overcome them.
